Willow Bend PTA

Welcome to the Willow Bend PTA Website and the 2009 - 2010 school year; Parents and Teachers working together for our kids. Here are some recent highlights:

The Jump Rope for Heart program has begun at Willow Bend. It is a program that benefits kids who have special hearts. Some kids have hearts that don’t work exactly right. These kids need help from doctors and medicines to get better. And they need our help too! All proceeds go to the American Heart Association. For more information, check out the website. The actual rope jumping will begin in PE class the week of February 8th and donations are due Friday, February 12th. The students have about 2 weeks to collect donations. Look for a flyer to come home

Valentine’s Day Parties will be held Friday, February 12th at 1:30 PM (9:15 for AM kindergarten). Please contact Tracie McCarthy at tracie_mac@msn.com if you want to be involved in planning classroom parties. There is room for everyone. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher if you would like to donate an item.

Dads and Donuts will be held Thursday, February 25th 7:10 am-7:50 am. Dads, Grandfathers and/or Uncles start your day by sharing breakfast with your Willow Bend Student(s) before you head off to work and school! Complimentary donuts, coffee and juice will be served. Further info will be sent home with your student this week. We need moms!! If you are interested in volunteering as servers, please contact Maria Pappas 847-303-3536, Carrie Mazza 847-348-1024 or Laurie Callero 847-925-0792.

District Fifteen Educational Foundation Family Night with the Chicago Wolves. Be there to enjoy all the excitement when the Chicago Wolves face off against the Houston Aeros on District Fifteen Educational Foundation Family Night, Saturday, February 20, at 7 p.m. at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont. For this night only, the Wolves are offering a choice of three great ticket packages for District 15 families to choose from. A portion of the proceeds from each package purchased will benefit the District Fifteen Educational Foundation. For more information, contact Julie Seyller at 847-832-1941 or jnseyller@chicagowolves.com or check out the information from the website.

NWSC of PTA/PTSA presents Independence Highway a program designed by the Society for the Preservation of Human Dignity. The program provides parents and teens the

opportunity to discuss topics including healthy sexuality and relationships, both together and with their peers, in a facilitated learning environment. Students from all district 15 junior high schools and their parents are invited to attend any of the sessions.

Yearbook News The 2009/2010 Yearbook Committee is hosting a Picture Contest for all students. We are asking Willow Bend students to submit pictures that could possibly grace the cover of this year’s yearbook. The due date for all artwork is 02/12/10. Please have your student turn in their drawings for the front and back cover to the Principal’s office. All drawings must be in bold colored markers or crayons and a white 8 ½ X 11 portrait size sheet of paper with a 1/4 inch border. The Committee is also asking anyone that has taken pictures at Willow Bend functions this year (i.e. Fun Fair, Orbit Skate Party, Musicals) to email pictures to JPA2408@comcast.net.

Labels for Education - Buy one of the popular Campbell brand cookbooks at www.lfecookbooks.com, and earn 125 points for Willow Bend’s LFE account. After you complete your purchase on the checkout page, you will be directed to another page where you can instantly credit the points you've earned to Willow Bend.  Don't forget about the UPC codes form the Campbell products we use every day.

District 15 Technology Survey will target students, teachers, principals, and parents, and data from them will direct the district as it develops important goals and action plans for a three-year technology plan that will shape the way the district uses and builds upon its current technological offerings.

The short parent survey will ask if you agree or disagree with 18 statements regarding the use of technology in schools and in everyday life by both your child and yourself. It will also ask five questions about your use of technology for electronic communication with the district and your child's school and teacher, and provide space for you to comment on any topic related to technology use for education or electronic communication.

The survey, which is available in English and Spanish, takes just a few minutes to complete, and its results are completely anonymous. Thank you for taking a moment to complete it.

Check out A Parent's Guide to Video Games, Parental Controls and Online Safety. The National PTS and Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) developed this helpful booklet for parents to guide them in making good choices for their children. The Entertainment Software Rating Board Education & Outreach site has more helpful information.

The PTA needs you to volunteer. We make wonderful things happen for the students of Willow Bend, but we can’t do it without your help. Please make the time to be a part. Grab a friend or make a new one and try something new! There is always guidance and help; you are never alone. Our PTA is composed of moms and dads that work full time, part time and that stay at home with their kids...there is a place for everyone, no matter what you do for “work”!
